STAIRS

Stairs are more than just a way to move between floors. Stairs add a rare element of vertical drama to our predominantly horizontal living. Traditionally staircases were tucked away to maintain privacy for the bedroom areas but many clients now embrace the theatre of a lovingly crafted stair hall.Designs can range from a faithful recreation of a classic, such as a delicate cut-string Georgian staircase or a cantilevered Cotswold stone stair, to a contemporary statement like an open-riser stair with a glass balustrade. The choice reflects the character of the home and the aspirations of its owners.

Even the handrail, a surface touched more frequently than most others, can subtly signal the quality and craftsmanship of the house. Carefully considered staircases are therefore both functional and a statement of architectural intent.
