LISTED BUILDINGS
Preserving the past, designing for the future.
We are fortunate to live in a country rich in historic buildings, many of which are rightfully protected within our Conservation areas or with specific listings. Approximately half of Jackson Architects’ workload involves listed buildings, reflecting our extensive experience in this field.
With over 35 years of practice, we bring a deep understanding of what is likely to be approved, helping clients avoid unnecessary delays and costs associated with unsuitable proposals. Our strong working relationships with Conservation Officers across more than 14 Local Authorities allow us to navigate the process efficiently and effectively.
It is a common misconception that successful work on Listed buildings must always replicate historic styles. Our approach is informed by context and sensitivity, rather than imitation. Our portfolio ranges from alterations to key Grade I civic buildings in Cheltenham, extensions to Grade II* manor houses and stately homes, to award-winning refurbishments of more modest listed cottages and barns.
We are well-versed in the technical requirements of traditional crafts and construction techniques, and can advise on achieving your desired design with minimal impact on the historic fabric. This expertise ensures projects proceed smoothly, avoiding delays while respecting the building’s heritage.
